Child Support

When a couple decides to divorce, or have never been married but have children together, child support will inevitably be an issue. However, this issue can be resolved in a civilized and fair manner with the help of a family law attorney--along with two adults who are willing to work together to come to a logical agreement.

Basically, child support is the amount that the non-custodial parent is instructed to pay each month for the care of a child or childre he or she has with the parent that has primary custody. It is always best that both parents are working to provide for the child in these circumstances, so that the parent paying the child support will not feel as though he or she is supporting the other parent, and not the child. While men pay child support in most cases, either parent can be ordered to pay, and the amount is usually deducted automatically from the parent's paycheck every month.

The amount of the child support a parent must pay each month is primarily dependent on how much the parent makes. However, other factors, such as how much time the non-custodial parent spends with the child, the number of children that a one has with a former spouse, and special circumstances, such as a child with special mental or physical needs.

In order to determine an amount for child support that you and your children's mother or father will be happy with, be sure to spend as much time as is necessary talking with a family law attorney about the regulations of child support.
